The botanical name (scientific name) of Tulsi is “Ocimum sanctum”.

We know the immunity is the biggest concern in the current scenario but it is difficult to boost immunity in a single day.

Tulsi is a natural immunomodulator (immunity booster) herb as it contains flavonoids.

According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology 2011, a double-blinded RCT (Randomised Control Trial) study has been done in healthy volunteers.

In this study, it observed that the ethanolic extract of Tulsi has significantly increased the level of cytokines (interferon-γ and interleukin-4), T-helper cells and Natural Killer cells.

An in-vivo animal experimental studied 2011, published in International Journal of Pharma and Bio Sciences evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of Tulsi leaves.

In this experiment, the adult albino rat was divided into three groups (control, standard and test). Then inflammation (paw edema) was induced in all groups by carrageenan.

After that, every group was given different treatment – control group (water), standard group (indomethacin 100mg/kg) and test group (fresh tulsi leaves paste 500mg/kg).

It was observed that the anti-inflammatory response of Tulsi leaves 88.15%.

 

Act as an analgesic –

In 2017, an animal experimental study published in studies on ethnomedicine to determine the analgesic effect of Tulsi leaves. It showed that Tulsi has great efficiency to reduce chronic pain.

 

Antipyretic agent –

To evaluate the antipyretic effect of Tulsi, an animal experimental studied was performed which published in World Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences 2017.

In this study, fever was induced in animal models (adult Wistar albino rat). After administration of tulsi leaves, it was noted that tulsi leaves significantly reduced the temperature.

 

8. Prevent from gastric ulcer

In a comparative study of The Internet Journal of Gastroenterology, 2012 reveals Tulsi leaves are effective in gastric and duodenal ulcer.

In this study, standard treatment (ranitidine drug) and test treatment (tulsi leaves 100/200 mg/kg) administered in ulcerated rats. It observed that the antiulcer effect of tulsi could be due to antisecretory, anticholinergic and anti-histaminergic properties.

 

9. Respiratory problems

A review article of International Journal of Advances in Pharmacy, Biology and Chemistry 2012, reveals Tulsi leaves are useful remedies in the treatment of respiratory disorders such as bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold.

A review article published in American Journal of Ethnomedicine 2014 reveals Tulsi leaves are effective in bacterial, swine flu, viral and fungal infections.
